(Updated Aug 22^nd) As we begin heading toward the next scheduled release near the end of September (v2.0.9), there are already several big features which have been implemented in the pre-release code.  In addition to the previously mentioned '2-column form display style' option (see this post), we've converted two of the remaining old-school modules into 2.0 style controllers...Simple Polls and Navigation.  This was no simple conversion (pun intended)...and though we've retained as much backwards compatibility as possible, you can begin preparing your custom themes and views for this valuable update.

Just as an ice cream cone seems extra special on a hot summer day, the next release of Exponent (v2.0.8) slated for the end of July, should be just as tasty.  Here's some things we're already working on:

When the next version (2.0.7) is released at the end of May, not only will there be greater HTML5 and PHP v5.4 compliance, and zippier performance, we'll also be adding some new features in addition to the standard bug fixes.

Want a sneak peak at the next release coming out of the 'queue?'  The biggest new features you can expect to see are 'Categories' make their debut, and 'Tags' usage will be more consistent and widespread.  

v2.0.4 should be released before the end of January!  As with the previous release, there are no 'show-stopper' type preparations required, but there are changes none-the-less.

Here are a couple updates to Exponent you can expect to see soon.  The first will actually make it into the v2.0.3 'Christmas present.'

You might be expecting to see the words 'major changes' and 'may break custom themes', but this shoudn't be the case for the next version, 2.0.3.  Though our release schedule is slowing down primarily due to the holidays, v2.0.3 will be a major update of sorts, but shouldn't break anything already working with a v2.0.2 installation (please see the prepping for 2;0.1 and prepping for 2.0.2 articles for details on changes required to implement those updates.)

(Update #3) Exponent, v2.0.2 was released at the end of October 2011.  Like the previous release (v2.0.1), it incorporates some fairly major changes under the hood that could 'break' some custom themes or mods.  To help prepare you for this release, here's some things to be aware of:

Fresh on the heels of the stable release of 2.0, the development  team is busily preparing to release version 2.0.1 at the end of Septermber.  In addition to those fixes already posted as an easily uploaded patch, there are additional bug fixes, feature additions, and some relatively major changes 'under-the-hood.'

The code base has been 'frozen' in preparation for the stable release of Exponent 2.0, scheduled for August 31st, 2011.  Things are proceeding smoothly as the Development team tweaks the code and fixes the last few reported bugs.
