Version 2.4.2 Released

To help ring in 2018, we've released version 2.4.2, 'Awaited Appearance'. There are a number of changes, new features, and countless fixes...especially since our most recent update v2.4.1patch6. Most importantly, v2.4.2 brings compatibility with PHP v7.2 which was released as stable a few short weeks ago. It however removes support for PHP v5.3 and v5.4 which have been considered obsolete for a long time. We do still support web servers running PHP v5.6 and v7.0, even though each are no longer recommended. We strongly encourage all Exponent installations be upgraded to v2.4.2 as soon as practical!

In addition to correcting issues with v2.4.1, we've removed support for obsolete browsers, however this can optionally be turned back on during an upgrade. Removing support for non-HTML5 browsers should reduce some security concerns and also speed up page loading since we no longer load 'shims' and now even use jQuery v3. Also, most of our 3rd party libraries were updated along the way too.

Additionally, we've integrated preliminary support for a Twitter Bootstrap v4 theme. A preview theme is available, but is NOT included in the package and must be downloaded elsewhere, then installed. Once Bootstrap v4 is released as final/stable and we have worked past the remaining integration bugs, it will be included with future patches/releases of Exponent.

As with all previous upgrades, we highly recommend you test your system and custom theme before upgrading a production server, especially if jumping over minor version numbers. An article about updating a custom theme can be found here. Several articles about upgrading can be found here.
